I left the University of Kentucky after 1987 after declining to apply for tenure in the English Department. For several years thereafter I worked in the Supported Systems division of CBM Computer Center, a chain based in Lexington but with stores all over the eastern U.S. I provided support and expertise in the then-new field of "Desktop Publishing," and I also began to work with computer-based digital video and the internet...
