"Nellie Kane"
Jam session with Bruce Lewis (guitar), Tom Adler (banjo), Noah Adler (mandolin) as Peter Adler dozes in a La-Z-Boy recliner...
The song is "Nellie Kane," sung by Noah. This was one of several songs we jammed on, videoed by Bob Adler when he and Peter and Peter's wife Carolyn visited us in mid-February, 2026.
"Texas Gales"
A tune we jammed on from the same session... Mid-February, 2026... Bruce Lewis, Tom Adler, Noah Adler on bass, Peter Adler in the recliner!
Paw Paw Pickers: "Lonesome Fiddle Blues"
One of Russ Farmer's "One Man Band" video productions. The Paw Paw Pickers were what we called our a group; in those days we picked and sang at The Windy Corner, a restaurant in Lexington, Ky, on many Friday nights. This week it was Art Mize on Fiddle, me (Tom Adler) on Banjo, Bruce Lewis on Guitar and David Wagoner on Bass. This is one tune of a two-hour set: Lonesome Fiddle Blues. This was probably recorded by Russ around 2013...
Through much of the 1970s I played banjo in a "hot, progressive" bluegrass band, the
KOKOMO BROS
(always pronounced "brose," never "brothers")!
The band was based in West Lafayette, Indiana, though I lived 100 miles away from there in Bloomington, IN, where I was pursuing graduate studies in Folklore.
